Although Zimbabwe has received some bad press in the last few years, tourism in this part of Africa is rapidly increasing as this country has some of the most beautiful and untouched treasures on the continent. Zimbabwe is situated at the border of the tropical belt in the south-east of Africa. It comprises 390,000 km² of land and borders Botswana, Mozambique, Zambia and South Africa. In the Eastern Highlands, north of Mutare lies the highest mountain – Inyangani (2,592 metres).

This country is filled with surprises including the Great Zimbabwe Ruins, the Eastern Highlands, the Mana Pools, and the glorious Matopos Hills. With a great infrastructure and one-of-a-kind majestic beauty, you will be sure to return!

You can visit Zimbabwe at any time of the year. However, with warm temperatures and dry weather, the best time to travel is from April to September. Although, the Victoria Falls is best viewed in all its splendor from January to July.

IMPORTANT TRAVEL INFORMATION

Climate:

Zimbabwe has two seasons, summer and winter. Summer runs October through April and is hot and humid with daytime temperature over 30°C. Winter runs May through September. Days are dry and sunny with average temperature of 20°C. Nights can be quite cool to cold.

Entry and Visa Requirements:

To enter Zimbabwe, you will need a passport, which is valid for 6 months after exiting the country. Visas are issued at the border which currently cost USD30 for a single entry visa.

Money:

The currency is Zimbabwean Dollar. You can still pay touristic services as well as the visa on arrival in US Dollar. However, travelers should bring USD in small notes as not all restaurants, hotels and activity centers have enough change. It is recommended to put the cash into the hotel safe. Visa and Master cards are widely accepted; some ATMs accept credit cards.

The official language is English.

Electricity:

220 Volts AC, 50Hz. South African-style plugs (three round pins) and British-style plugs (three square pins) are used.

Health:

No specific vaccination is required for entry in the country. However, it would be recommended that the following vaccines be administered or up-dated prior to coming to the country: Hepatitis A and B, typhoid, anti-polio and anti-meningococcal meningitis vaccines.
